Sports Medicine Our primary care physicians work to prevent and treat sports injuries. Their efforts are not limited to competitive athletes, but rather extend this of care to school and college age athletes as well as the "weekend warrior".

Of course, athletes with chronic illnesses that limit participation (such asthma, diabetes, or high blood pressure) present special challenges. Our physicians will help you find ways to manage these condition while maximizing your athletic participation.

An additional Sports Medicine Certification is now available for the care of our athletes. Family HealthCare Associates is proud to recognize Dr. Terry Wilkinson for completion of this certification and his passionate interest in Sports Medicine. You can see Dr. Wilkinson in our Arlington - Randol Mill location.

Whether you experience a new injury or have a nagging old injury, Sports Medicine physicians emphasize non-operative techniques such as physical therapy, casting, bracing, or injections to assist you in returning to your sport or activity as quickly and safely as possible.

Dr. de la Torre, a Family Practitioner, evaluates his patient for her soccer injury.

Sports Medicine physicians are also an excellent resource for individuals who want to start a new exercise program or for healthy athletes looking for ways to improve athletic performance. They are trained to assess your physical condition and may provide counseling for strength training and conditioning, sports nutrition and/or healthy dietary supplements.
